I'm finally doing what I came here (in part) to do: learn Chinese. I think I just spent 3-4 hours sitting, learning vocab and sentence structure. I don't think I have *too* much to show for it, but my elementary reading/listening skills are gradually improving. Though it is different than how I learned Spanish, I'm trying a tactic of trying to understand spoken and written Mandarin before I make a grand effort to speak it and write it. Part of this is due to the fact that I have little use for it here; more people in Hong Kong seem to speak English than Mandarin. The rest is mostly not wanting to have to transliterate all Chinese characters to Pinyin to be able to say them. We'll see how this goes. =D
Cheers to my friends,
